Henley Alumni Association Malaysia (HAAM) hosted its Annual Dinner this year on Saturday, 2nd March 2024 at the Tropicana Golf & Country Club. Some twenty-five (25) participants attended the event including a big contingent of nine (9) representatives from the Johor Chapter led by the Chapter Chairman, Mr. Jeremy Foster. We are very pleased to have a big representation from the Johor Chapter this year and they are all students from the University of Reading, JB campus. We are also very encouraged to meet young participants such as Ms. Otelli Low, Mr. Avienash Vilet and Edward Ng again this year. Mr. Cheam Tat Inn joined the event 2nd time on a roll. We also wish to thank the support of Dr. Francis Lee and partner who drove all the way from Penang to join us.
The event started with a buffet dinner followed by Dato’ Yap giving the opening speech. Next, we had a very experienced and learned lawyer, Datuk Kenny Ng, giving a very interesting feature talk entitled “Tunku’s Vision” giving participants a very good run-down on the formation of Malaya and the original vision of Tunku for the country. The participants learned a great deal from our learned lawyer, Datuk Kenny Ng, on the history and succinct points of the Malaysian constitution particularly on our Parliamentary system, individual freedom and rights and etc.. I am sure the younger participants learned a great deal about the history of Malaysia which they otherwise were not taught in school these days.
Participants were feasted to a sumptuous fusion meal throughout the night complete with nice dessert and beer sponsored very generously by our President, Dato’ Yap. The evening ended with lucky draws with prizes also sponsored by Dato’ Yap. We bid farewell to each other at around 10.30 pm.
