Day Trip To Serendah For Hiking & Durian Brunch On 26th November 2025

A day trip to Serendah; a small town in Selangor approximately 50 km from Petaling Jaya, was organized by HAAM for members to visit our dear Honorary Treasurer Mr. Allen Cheong’s durian orchard and also to do some hiking plus a durian brunch there. Some ten (10) people including some members’ spouses joined the event. Among the participants were Dato’ Yap, Mr. Derek Poon, Ms. Annie Ong, Mr. Lor Kien Teck and Mr. Simon Lee. Mr. Allen Cheong was the host for this event and he graciously opened his orchard for our visit. Unfortunately, the famous Black Thorn durian was not available but we still managed to feast ourselves to a variety of Kampung durians. The event started at the orchard at around 10 am.

The group then went hiking and visited the orchard of Allen’s neighbour with fruit bearing Black Thorn durian trees. We were treated to savour some free rambutan. We hiked up some steep slopes as the farm was located on a hilltop. The hiking and visit took about an hour and probably some participants got a full month of exercise from this hiking!

Allen then took five of us; Derek Poon and wife, Simon Lee & wife and Mr. Lor Kien Teck to visit a small local museum which showcased the history of Serendah. Serendah was once a thriving tin mining town. After which, we went for lunch in a very nice local restaurant. Allen continued to show us some places of interest after lunch such as the local flood mitigation control system, the gazebo where the local resistance force had their first meeting during the Second World War to fight with the Japanese force and many fighters were killed when the Japanese got wind of the meeting. The resistance force was forced to retreat into the jungle. We also visited the local waterfall located about 3 km from Allen’s orchard. We finished the visit at around 3.30 pm and left for home. All participants enjoyed the visit very much and look forward to savour the Black Thorn durian next time.
